Hall of Famer Mel Ott was the Giants’ career home run leader and owned the National League homers record, at least until Willie Mays came along. Ott’s number 4 is retired, but his uniform still is around. At least a uniform he wore in 1948, the last year he managed the New York Giants. His jersey, pants and stirrups are being auctioned off as a set.
Game-used memorabilia from one of baseball’s greatest sluggers is hitting the auction block next month. SCP Auctions will be handling the sale of several items from Mel Ott, a Hall of Famer who hit 511 home runs and led the National League in long balls six times during a 22-year career — all with the New York Giants.
SCP Auctions will offer several items from the career of Baseball Hall of Famer Mel Ott in its 2017 Fall Premier Auction. Eight different lots from the Baseball Hall of Famer’s personal collection will open for bidding on Wed., Oct. 18. Each item will be accompanied by a letter from the Ott Family. The online auction runs through Sat., Nov. 4.
