Hall of Famer Robin Yount has consigned dozens of items from his personal memorabilia collection including the bat and ball from his 3,000th hit, to SCP Auctions. The company will offer the items in its upcoming 2016 Mid-Summer Classic online auction.
Modern baseball may have found its birth certificate. And with it a new birth date, and new founding father. Coinciding with the start of the major league season, a set of game-changing documents went up for sale this week. Their authenticity and significance are verified by experts including John Thorn, Major League Baseball’s official historian. The 1857 documents titled “Laws of Base Ball” establish the essentials of the modern game: The distance of the base paths is 90 feet, the length of the game is nine innings and nine players are in the field.
The jerseys of most-famous number in all of Major League Baseball worn by stars from the most-successful franchise in history are being sold by SCP Auctions. A collection of 41 jerseys worn by members of the New York Yankees from 2010 to 2014 all bearing the No. 42 have been consigned to the Laguna Niguel, Calif.-based auction house by the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which is a non-profit organization founded by Rachel Robinson in 1973. Its efforts help fund higher education opportunities for those in need. Proceeds from this auction will go to such efforts.
