Auctioner turns a passion into a payoff

“In high school … I started buying and selling baseball cards, going to shows; back then, they had all the conventions,” Kohler said. “And I started running some ads in the trade publications back then because that’s really the only way you could communicate. Just doing shows and mail order, it just grew, and then I opened a store.”

The company, founded in 1979, moved to Laguna Niguel in the early 1990s, but with the rise of the Internet, it now draws collectors from all over the country and internationally.
